Perhaps you are an outdoor person. What is there to do in Mountain in January. Let me fill you in. January 12 at the Kelly Lake Sprtsmen’s Club there is an Ice Fishing Derby. All of the activity is centered around the corner of County G and St. Bernadette Road. There will be food, refreshments, and raffles. January 19, there is another Ice Fishing Derby on White Potato Lake. It is sponsored by the White Potato Lake Sportsmen’s Club from 8:00 AM to 3 PM. There will be food, refreshments, raffles, and prizes for the largest fish. For more information contact262-894-9540.

January 19, there is also a Community Winter Family Fund Day at YMCA Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya on Chute Pond in Mountain, Wisconsin. From 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM you can go cross country skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, ice skating and then warm up by the fire with s’mores and a cup of hot cocoa. If you prefer finding your own adventure, ice fishing is well underway on all of the lakes in Oconto County. The Riverview Ice Rink is open for skating or maybe a pick up game of hockey. The Lakewood Cross Country Ski Course is open, Lakewood Ski and Sport in Lakewood, Wisconsin does rent skiis and snowshoes, best to call ahead.

Spur of the Moment Ranch sits on the Nicolet Trail which is the main snowmobile trail through Oconto County Wisconsin. Snowmobile trails are in early winter conditions as of  1/6/12. We have had a base of about 10 inches of snow from right before Christmas, waiting patiently for more snow.Skip at cabin door 047
