In the middle of winter, it is a great time to talk about dining in the northwoods of Wisconsin. In the upcoming weeks, it is the intent to entice you to the northwoods for a getaway that might include a wonderful upnorth dining experience. I can’t think of a better way to getaway and enjoy a Friday or Saturday night than sitting with my hubby or with friends and enjoying a great meal in northern Wisconsin.
Our first restaurant to explore is the Weatherwood Supper Club located on State HWY 32/64 in Mountain Wisconsin. The Weatherwood was purchased by Sherry and Bill Wilhelm from Manitowoc Wisconsin in 2001. The restaurant itself has a rich history in Mountain and Oconto County Wisconsin. Sherry and Bill have only improved the restaurant through the years; updating and expanding it in 2004 to increase seating and add handicapped bathrooms and entrance; and expand the bar area. Many of their staff has been with them since the restaurant opened; and it has a family oriented atmosphere.
The Weatherwood’s winter hours of operation are Thursday to Sunday; opening at 4:30 with double bubble until 5:30 PM. Sherry has a great soup and salad bar. All of her soups are homemade. The salad bar is a hit with regulars in the area and comes with all of the dinner entrees.
Entrees offer variety for diners, she slow roasts her barbecued ribs for 6 hours until they are fall off the bone tasty. My husband Skip enjoys ordering a full order and taking half home for lunch the next day. They are great reheated as well. One of my favorites is her salmon; and lately her trout both of which are delicous for all you fish lovers out there. Steaks are black angus select steer. Northwoods chicken and chicken cordon bleu is made in house from scratch. Occassionally, she offers some New Orleans flavored dishes as specials.
